The Quartering Act - 1765
General Thomas Gage obtained this provision from Parliament. It said that colonial civil authorities would supply barracks, supplies, and other items for the British troops for two years. (Dupuy, 1963) This act was imposed for punishing mutiny and desertion, and for the better payment of the army and their quarters. (US History.org, 2012)
